Justin Bieber Better Watch Out for the British Boy Band Invasion

Justin Bieber has been the biggest teen idol of our time for quite some time now, but his 18th birthday celebration might be a bit spoiled by a British boy band invasion.

The Biebs has kept tween and teen girls interested in him with his signature swoop hairdo, his squeaky-clean persona, and his relationship with Selena Gomez. Beliebers have followed his every move for years now, but fangirl love can be fickle - now it seems that a new group of heartthrobs are working on overthrowing Justin right before his birthday.

Justin Bieber Better Watch Out for the British Boy Band InvasionBritish boy bands The Wanted and One Direction have taken the U.S. charts by storm. The Wanted's single "Glad You Came" was number two on the US iTunes chart on Tuesday, while One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" landed on the US Billboard chart at number 25. So obviously American girls are embracing the Brits with open arms.

The Biebs has performed with The Wanted in the past, so he's got to be just a bit annoyed at the thought of Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes stealing his fans (he probably introduced the guys to many Beliebers). But unfortunately the Biebs is outnumbered - girls have their pick of gorgeous guys to hyperventilate over in these new boy bands.

It's looking like America will get to see another big boy band battle a la the great '90s showdown between the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, but will a Justin Timberlake emerge from one of these new groups? Right now the Biebs' biggest threat could be One Direction star Harry Styles.

Harry's bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson certainly have their fair share of fans that call themselves "Directioners," but Harry has emerged as the group's real headline maker. He's got an iconic shaggy hairdo just like Justin, and the Mick Jagger lookalike's love life has also been the talk of the tabloids.Harry started dating 32-year-old TV host Caroline Flack when he was just 17, so their age difference caused quite a bit of controversy in the U.K. The couple ended their three-month relationship shortly before the One Direction infection spread to the States, which is probably a good thing considering where the band started trying to pick up new fans.

The group recently guest-starred on the Nickelodeon show "iCarly" and have been touring with the guys of "Big Time Rush," so they're obviously trying to appeal to younger fans. It's safe to say that many American parents would have been a bit shocked by Harry's relationship with an older woman, so it's possible that he and Caroline broke up for this very reason.

So should Justin worry about his fans abandoning him for this new group of guys? Not necessarily - his namesake Timberlake managed to stay relevant long after his teen idol days were over. The Biebs has seemingly been planning for his future, too - he and Scooter Braun have started a new record label, and they recently signed their first artist, a talented Canadian singer named Carly Rae Jepsen.

The Biebs has also taken a page from J.T. by making the move to movies - Justin and Mark Wahlberg are working on a basketball flick together. So he's working hard to make sure that he has the opportunity to be more than just another child star. But what do you think - is this new boy band invasion bad for the Biebs as he reminds everyone that he's not just a cute kid anymore by celebrates his 18th birthday?
