The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.
The "Addicted to You" video, featuring a solo performance from the Colombian pop icon herself, racked up nearly 4 million views in its first three days of release. More than a week later, it has doubled its view count.
Shakira hyped the release of the video first with a preview clip on April 30 (similar to Bieber's roll out of "Boyfriend" premier) and promoted it via a Facebook event as well. The success of the video contributed to a 90% increase in video plays and a 155% increase in traffic to MySpace and YouTube over the previous charting week.
But the biggest video debut during the charting week was by Social 50 King Justin Bieber, finally dropping the "Boyfriend" video and shattering a VEVO record in the process. Bieber remains at No. 1 on the Social 50 chart again this week.
After first released exclusively to MTV at 7:50pm EST May 3, the video was subsequently released online where, according to VEVO, the video grabbed 5.2 million views in 24 hours in the United States representing 4% of all videos streamed in that span of time.
In its first 22 minutes of release, "Boyfriend" earned VEVO's record for the most views in a 24 hour period, totaling 8.2 million views worldwide. "Boyfriend" racked a total of 25,404,000 views in the tracking week, Bieber's official VEVO channel earn 124% increase in activity over the previous charting week. Bieber also notched a gain of 340,000 Twitter followers and 204,000 Facebook fans.
The last of the significant gainers this week is Jennifer Lopez. She climbs 21-10 on the Social 50 after the May 3 premiere of her collaborative video with Wisin & Yandel for "Follow the Leader." In turn, she reaches the top 10 for the first time.
Lopez tallied over 6 million views over the course of the week, elevating her online fanbase by 23% compared to the previous week. "Follow the Leader's" video was released along with a special promotion presented by "Entertainment Tonight," allowing fans to go behind the scenes on location in Acapulco, Mexico, where the video was shot.
Fans reacted online to Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch's passing last week. The Beastie Boys nearly entered the Social 50, just missing the threshold of the chart. Fans contributed 7.2 million plays to the Boys' VEVO and YouTube channels a staggering 1,847% weekly increase.
The views helped their fan base receive a 298% boost over last week as well.
As for the rest of the Social 50, Adele remains steady at No. 2, Rihanna's up two to No. 3, Skrillex is stationary at No. 4 and One Direction falls two rungs to No. 5. Nicki Minaj rises 9-7, Katy Perry's a non-mover at No. 8 and LMFAO falls three to No. 9.
